A warm, gently spiced latte sweetened with real honey rather than flavoured syrup.

There is something especially comforting about honey and warm spices with coffee. This Honey-Spiced Latte brings together espresso, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg, with just enough honey to soften the coffee without turning it into a dessert. It is simple enough for an everyday morning but feels a little special when served in a favourite mug.

Ingredients

  • 2 shots espresso, or ½ cup (120 mL) very strong brewed coffee
  • 1 tbsp (15 mL) pure honey, plus more to taste
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp ground allspice
  • Tiny pinch of ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp (2.5 mL) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 mL) milk of your choice, dairy or plant-based
  • Extra cinnamon, for finishing

Directions

  1. Make the coffee. Pull two shots of espresso or brew ½ cup (120 mL) very strong coffee.
  2. Make the spiced honey base. Add the honey, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg to a large mug. Pour the hot coffee directly over the mixture and stir until the honey dissolves and the spices are evenly distributed. Stir in the vanilla.
  3. Warm and froth the milk. Heat the milk until hot and steaming but not boiling, ideally 140–150°F (60–65°C). Froth until light and creamy if you have a milk frother.
  4. Assemble. Slowly pour the warm milk into the spiced coffee, holding back some foam with a spoon. Spoon the remaining foam over the top.
  5. Finish. Dust lightly with cinnamon and serve immediately.
