Custom Label Instructions and FAQs

How to Use the Label Maker

Create, customize, and print beautiful, professional labels for your jars, bottles, and baked goods in just a few clicks.

Step 1: Choose Your Template and Dimensions

  • Select a label style: Pick your starting design from the available templates (e.g., Round Jar Lid, Rectangular Front Label, Recipe Tag).
  • Confirm the size: Make sure the dimensions match your container or pre-cut label paper (such as 2" round or 2" x 4" rectangular labels).

Step 2: Customize Your Design

  1. Edit text: Click any text block to update product names, net weight, ingredient lists, or custom dates.
  2. Adjust typography and colours: Personalize font styles, text colours, and background accents to match your home harvest or bakery brand.
  3. Tweak graphics: Toggle visual elements like borders, badges, or icons on or off.

Step 3: Preview and Generate Your Sheet

  • Live preview: Review your design on-screen to double-check spelling, alignment, and spacing.
  • Layout grid: The Studio automatically arranges your design into a printable grid aligned with standard sheet templates.

Step 4: Export and Print

  1. Download PDF: Click Generate Printable PDF to save the print-ready sheet directly to your device.
  2. Print settings (crucial):
    • Open the downloaded PDF in your browser or PDF viewer.
    • Set the scale to 100% or Actual Size in your printer dialog. Do not select "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Printable Area", as this will throw off alignment with pre-cut label sheets.
  3. Test print first: Print a test page on plain white paper, then hold it against your label sheet in front of a light source to check alignment before printing on actual label paper.

Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting

Why are my labels printing off-centre or misaligned with the pre-cut stickers?

  • Check your scale settings: Auto-scaling is the most common culprit. In your printer's print dialog, set the scale to 100% or Actual Size. Never use "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Printable Area", as these shrink the sheet slightly and cause alignment drift.
  • Paper tray guides: Make sure the guides in your printer tray are snug against the edges of the label sheet so the paper feeds straight.
  • Orientation: Confirm whether your printer feeds paper head-first or tail-first. Loading the sheet upside down can flip the top/bottom alignment.

Why is the print blurry or smudging when touched?

  • Paper type settings: In your printer's media settings, change Paper Type from Plain Paper to Labels, Heavyweight, or Matte Photo Paper. This slows the feed speed and applies the right heat and ink density for proper drying.
  • Ink types: Standard inkjet printers work best with matte labels. If you're using glossy label sheets, make sure they're rated for inkjet printers rather than laser printers.

Can I print individual labels instead of a full sheet?

The Studio generates a full grid designed for standard sheet formats (like Avery templates). To avoid wasting stickers on a partly used sheet, save unused blank spots for future runs, or print on full-sheet sticker paper and trim by hand.
