Bake It Now: One-Bowl Fudgy Brownies
Founders
A good brownie doesn't need frosting or decoration. It just needs a deep chocolate flavour, a slightly crackly top and a centre that stays moist and fudgy.
This one-bowl version keeps the method simple and avoids the need for a mixer. It's a dependable style of bake to aim for when you want something chocolatey without making a whole production of it.

Ingredients
- ½ cup (125 mL) butter, melted and cooled slightly
- 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup (80 mL) unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- ½ cup (125 mL) all-purpose flour, spooned into the measuring cup and levelled
- ¼ teaspoon (1.25 mL) salt
Directions
Prepare the oven and pan
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Line an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving a little overhang to help lift the brownies out.
Whisk the wet ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar together.
Add the eggs and whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
Add the dry ingredients
Add the cocoa powder, flour and salt.
Stir just until no dry flour remains; don't overmix.
Bake
Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
Bake for approximately 25 minutes. The edges should look set, while a toothpick inserted near the centre should come out with moist crumbs rather than wet batter. Allow additional time if needed.
Cool completely and cut
Cool completely in the pan.
Lift out using the parchment and transfer to a cutting board.
Cut into 16 squares, making four rows in each direction.
